1889 Hatchet Commemorating 100th Anniversary of George Washington's Inauguration As President of the United States
This is a wonderful old metal commemorative hatchet designed to be hung on a wall which was probably issued in 1889 at the time of the inauguration of President Benjamin Harrison to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the inauguration of George Washington. A portrait of President Washington is in the middle of the hatchet blade and on the handle says "Washington Inaugurated President of the US April 30, 1789. The hatchet measures 13 inches long. The writing on the hatchet handle is worn and less visible than shown on this digital picture taken with a flash but it is still a great historic item honoring the Father of Our Country becoming the first President of the United States.
