Reliability, Honesty and Professional Affiliations  We are a member of the Manuscript Society, The Universal Autograph Collectors Club, The Ephemera Society, The American Historical Print Collectors Society, The Connecticut Historical Society, The Connecticut Bar Association, the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association and a variety of other autograph, document, print and historical organizations and subscribe to their code of ethics. We have a large reference library and try to keep up with the literature and developments in our field.

It is always difficult when dealing with a web site to assess the honesty, reliability and professionalism of the organization. eBay has a means of evaluating the performance of buyers and sellers by the comments from participants in their transactions, which they call feedback. We have been buying and selling on eBay since 1998 and have a 100% feedback rating with over 1,700 rated transactions (our eBay ID is historygallery and you can check our feedback record here).

Pictures and Descriptions: We try to take good pictures so you can tell the condition of an item yourself. Since all of our items are old and there are no reproductions there usually are some minor defects of age such as soiling, small tears and slightly faded colors. We try to describe significant defects and that combined with the pictures should be enough to let you accurately determine the condition and if you are in doubt you can always give us a call or send us an email. Forms of payment: Credit card or bank transfer payments may be made to us though PAYPAL by clicking on the  buttons on the description page of each item you wish to purchase. That link takes you to the secure PayPal website where the payment is processed. The shipping cost and sales tax for Connecticut residents are automatically added to the total. You do not need a PayPal account to use this service.

We have had a PayPal account for many years and have utilized it both as buyer and seller for hundreds of transactions with no problems. By using PayPal your payment details, including credit card and bank account numbers, are secure and not disclosed to us.

When purchasing multiple items you can check what you have tentatively purchased at any time by clicking on the button at the bottom of every item description page and you can also proceed to checkout from there.

If you prefer you may send a personal check or money order to: History Gallery, PO Box 200, Ashford, CT, 06278. We do not accept cash via the mail to avoid disputes about whether the money was received.

Layaway terms are available. Please inquire about terms that will meet your needs.

Availability of Items: We go to antique, book and ephemera shows on some weekends and may sell items listed on the web site. In the rare case where you purchase at item using the PayPal buttons that we have sold at a show we will promptly refund your payment. 

Shipping:
We send everything well packaged (Nancy does most of the packaging) and insured. usually by Priority United States Postal Service mail or media mail for books and printed materials. We state the shipping costs for each item and if you click the PayPal button it reveals the shipping cost. Framed items are more costly to ship because of their size and weight and they usually cost at least $20 to ship with insurance. The more expensive items cost more because shipping insurance increases with value. Some larger paper items are shrink wrapped and if sent that way require custom packaging which usually costs about $10. Such items can also be removed from the shrink wrap and be sent less expensively by using a shipping tube. All the quoted shipping costs are for United States delivery. Call or email us for costs for out of country delivery or with any shipping questions.

Sales Tax:
Connecticut residents must add 6% sales tax or provide a signed state resale certificate.

Every item is guaranteed authentic and as described. A Certificate of Authenticity is provided upon request. Full satisfaction is guaranteed and payment will be refunded for any reason if the item is returned within ten (10) days of receipt in the exact condition in which we sent it to you.
