"A Map of the Countries Adjacent to Carlisle Shewing the Route of the Rebels with their Principal Fords over ye Rr. Eden"

This historic map shows the course of the Second Jacobite Rebellion in the English and Scottish border area around Carlisle and its attempt to install Charles Edward Stuart (aka "Bonnie Prince Charlie" or "The Young Pretender") to the throne of England. The Pretender's forces succeeded in taking Carlisle Castle (built in 1062) and the view below shows some of the damage from the siege. The map shows where Bonnie Prince Charlie and his followers were camped and the course of their rebellion.
