Mr. George Frederick Watts, R.A., D.C.L., LL.D.

"He paints portraits & ideas"

This is an original 1891 Vanity Fair lithograph by Sir Leslie Ward of the famous painter George Frederick Watts posted with his palette and brush.

The biography of Watts by Jehu Junior published with the print, a copy of which is included, notes,

He paints portraits and ideas so well that, although he has not always attained complete success, he is yet unsurpassed as a powerful and original artist; when has done work - of which his "Hope" is a type - that is quite unequalled."

A picture of "Hope" below was taken from a biography of Watts which can be seen at Wikipedia.

Hope painted in 1885 and given to the nation in 1897

This print comes already matted to a standard 16 x 20" frame size so it will be easy and inexpensive to frame and is enclosed in a protective plastic sleeve (which produces a ripple effect in the picture below).
